The papers contain correspondence about McClellan's efforts to get his wife Irina out of the Soviet Union, and include letters between McClellan and Irina Igorovna Ashekheva McClellan, letters between McClellan and various government officials and Congressmen, and letters between both McClellans and Rabbi Godalyah Engel, B'nai Brith, Hillel, Purdue, who took anactive interest in the case. Of interest is a letter from Richard Vincent Allen, assistant to the president for national security affairs, enclosing a copy of a letter from Ronald Reagan to Mrs. McClellan. Correspondents include Werner T. Angress, Harry Flood Byrd, Jr., Armand Hammer, Arthur A. Hartman, Edward Lezansky, William Eldridge Odom, Marshall Darrow Schulman, Brent Scowcroft, Malcolm Toon and John William Warner.
